Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
